Dorothy M. (Née Schaefer) Houlf, 87, passed away on April 8, 2021 with family at her side.
Dorothy was born June 6, 1933 on the South Side, the youngest of six. She was a proud graduate of Visitation High School. She met her husband at Hillman’s Foods, where they both worked. Don and Dorothy would be married for 62 years.
Dorothy opened Rainbow Travel in La Grange, and she and Don would take many memorable trips together. Dorothy’s favorite chapter began when she and Don became “Granny and Papa”. Dorothy was the finest grandmother one could wish for.
Dorothy is survived by her children: Patti Houlf, Dan (Mary) Houlf, and Maribeth (Jim) Kopriva. She is also survived by six lucky grandchildren: Tom Houlf, Daniel (Luciana) Houlf, Tim Houlf, Mike Houlf, Jim (Cassandra) Kopriva, and Ellie Kopriva. Dorothy was also a dear aunt to many.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1705 Burry Circle Drive, Crest Hill, IL on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m., Rev Tom Cargo officiating. Facemasks and social distancing will be observed in Church.
Dorothy will join her husband at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL following a private family committal service.
