Fr. Anthony M. Nyamai, age 50, entered into eternal life on Saturday, June 13, 2026, on the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua.

Fr. Anthony was born on February 22, 1976, in Nairobi, Kenya to his parents, Patrick Nyamai Muli and Alice Wayua Muli. Father attended Umoja Primary School in Nairobi, Queen of Apostles Minor Seminary for High School and attended Consolata Seminary in Nairobi where he received his degree in Philosophy.

While discerning priesthood, his friend, Fr. Clive Otieno, who was a deacon at the time, arranged for Fr. Anthony to meet Fr. Burke Masters who was the Diocese of Joliet Vocation Director at the time. Fr. Anthony applied to the Diocese of Joliet and was accepted and came to study at Mundelein Seminary for Joliet. Fr. Anthony was ordained a priest on May 26, 2018, by Bishop R. Daniel Conlon at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.

Fr. Anthony was assigned to St. Mary Parish, West Chicago as Parochial Vicar from June 2018 to June 2021, and as Pastor of St. Ambrose and St. Anne Parish (now known as St. Carlo Acutis Parish, Crest Hill) from July 2021 to June 2026.

Fr. Anthony was known for his calm, humble, and joyful demeanor in his service to all.

We are grateful for the few short years we had Fr. Anthony serve as a priest here in the Diocese of Joliet.

Fr. Anthony is survived by his parents and four siblings; Victoria Ndinda, Peter Muli, Scholastica Nduku, and Brian Mukeku. Please remember Fr. Anthony and his family in your prayers.

A Wake for Fr. Anthony will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.at St. Carlo Acutis Parish, 1705 Burry Circle Drive, Crest Hill, IL.

The body of Fr. Anthony will lie in state on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 9:00 am. to 11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in The Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Avenue, Joliet, IL.

Father Anthony’s body will be flown back to his home where he will be laid to rest in Wote-Makueni, Kenya.
