Robert J. “Bob” Benedick
Age 73 of Joliet, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 with his family by his side.
Born April 26, 1949, Bob was a son of Theodore and Marcella (Née McCarney) Benedick.
He was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High, Class of 1967, and Lewis (College) University 1971. On June 13, 1974, Bob married his best friend, JoAnne J. Pellegrini.
He was a Waste Water Treatment Operator for the City of Joliet and retired after 31 years of dedicated service.
Bob enjoyed golfing, playing softball and basketball. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan and a Lionel Model train collector. Bob excelled in Mathematics, was very witty and a real prankster.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, JoAnne J. Benedick; children, Heather M. Benedick and Jeffrey J. (Jennifer) Benedick; grandchildren, Sophia and Jonah Benedick; sister, Janet (Jerry) Russ; sister-in-law, Marsha (Jeff) Allbert; niece, Marcia Pellegrini; nephews, Brian Russ, Todd (Leona) Russ and Jon (Brooke) Pellegrini. Numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins also survive.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Marcella Benedick, and nephew / godson, Mark Russ.
Special thanks to the Neurologists and Lucia from Rush University for the excellent care they provided Bob throughout his journey.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, 1500 Black Road, Joliet, IL 60435. Funeral services will follow on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:15 a.m. with prayers in the funeral home chapel, then processing to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, for a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Anthony Nyamai officiating.
Bob will be laid to rest at a later date.
Per Bob’s request, cremation rites were accorded.
Preferred memorials may be made as gifts in Bob’s memory to: Parkinson’s disease Research Fund at Rush University Medical Center.
