Robert J. “Red” Madlener
Age 92 of Crest Hill, IL, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2019, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Chicago, IL, Robert was a son of Frank and Margaret (nee Tourville) Madlener. He was raised in the Chicago / Garfield Ridge area, graduating from the Parker High School in 1947; where he played on the football team.
On June 13, 1953, Red married Pearl C. Lewicki in St. Daniel’s Catholic Church in Garfield Ridge.
Red retired from Jefferson Smufitt Printing Company in 1996 after 47 years of dedicated service.
He was a member of the Archer Arrow Football Club, several Poker and Pinochle clubs and an avid Chicago White Sox and Bears fan.
In 1978, Red and Pearl traveled to Hawaii to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years; Pearl C. Madlener; son, James (Tina) Madlener; grandchildren, Justin (Jordan) Shelly, Taylor (Aaron) Aguerrevere and Alyssa Madlener; great-grandchildren, Brecken and Emberlyn Shelly; sisters, Vern (Late Tom) Maras and Margaret “Marge” Zdanys; brothers-in-law, Chuck Cernicky and Emil Flerick, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents; Frank Madlener and Margaret (William) Kenny; sister, Valerie Cernicky and sisters-in-law; Armella Flerick and Vivian (Late Bill) Mettlen.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2019 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church 1705 Burry Circle Drive, Crest Hill, IL.
Funeral services will follow at St. Ambrose with a Mass of Christian burial at 12:30 p.m., Rev. Tom Cargo officiating.
Per Robert’s wishes, cremation rites will follow. He will be laid to rest at a later date.
Preferred memorial may be made as gifts in Robert’s memory to: Joliet Area Community Hospice.
